Steven A. Schroeder, MD

Distinguished Professor of Health and Healthcare

As former President of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and current Director of the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center at UCSF (since 2003) I have worked to reduce the harm from tobacco use for more than 25 years. At RWJF this involved supporting organizations working on various aspects of tobacco control. Between 1991 and 2002 we made over $500 million in tobacco control grants. At the SCLC we have engaged partners from clinical organizations, federal and state agencies, advocacy groups, and voluntary organizations to increase the rate at which smokers try to quit as well as the odds that the quit attempt will be successful.
