Dr. Richard Hurt helped to found the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center in 1988 and served as its Director until 2014 when he retired from Mayo Clinic. The Center’s Treatment Program staff has treated over 55,000 patients with services ranging from individual counseling to an intensive Residential Treatment Program. Through its Education Program, education services are provided for a range of learners including training and certification for Tobacco Treatment Specialists, the annual conference for healthcare providers and most recently as the Founder and Chair of a new initiative called Global Bridges: Healthcare Alliance for Tobacco Dependence Treatment. He continues to serve on the Global Bridges Executive team which directs an international initiative to train healthcare professionals on the treatment of tobacco dependence and advocating for effective tobacco policy. Dr. Hurt is author or coauthor of over 200 scientific publications.
