Dr. Raj Panda M.D MPH is a Senior Public Health Specialist at the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). He has a Global Health Leadership master’s degree from Emory University, certificate in Global Tobacco Control Leadership from Johns Hopkins and a Public health Leader implementation research certification in Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) from Emory University, USA. Dr. Panda is adept in leading operational research projects in India and had considerable experience in the application of mixed methodology and epidemiological study designs in evaluation of various health systems projects in India including tobacco cessation in primary care.
He is well published in international journals of repute including Addiction, BMC, Tobacco Induced Diseases and Asia Pacific journal of cancer prevention. He has led several projects on tobacco cessation in the past and now leads the current global bridges project called SCCoPE. The Strengthening Tobacco Cessation Capacity of Primary Care Professionals (SCCoPE) is the first hybrid training model offering cessation certification in India and has already trained 400+ primary care physicians. Dr. Panda is regarded in high esteem by his peers and colleagues in the ministry and had led reviews of the National Health Mission and has been a key speaker on important panels on Universal Health Care and Tobacco Control in national and international forums. He is passionate about building a cessation network in India which can address cessation in both smoking and smokeless varieties of tobacco used in the country.
